PendingMusk promised (Dec 2025) to open-source 'literally all of the @X codebase. Nothing left out at all' by roughly the end of January 2026. What actually happened: X open-sourced its recommendation algorithm (xai-org/x-algorithm — Home Mixer, Thunder, Phoenix, the For-You candidate pipeline) on January 20, 2026, before the deadline, with a March 19 update following on the promised cadence. But as of July 2026 that is the only piece released — the full platform codebase ('nothing left out') has not been published. Partial: real, on-time open-sourcing of the algorithm; a fraction of the promised scope. Update (Jul 2026): Musk publicly restated the full-codebase pledge — on Jul 24 2026 saying 'next month, every line of code touching the X system will be open source and third-party audited' (i.e. targeting August 2026), after a Jul 15 security-review announcement. Still only the algorithm is public as of Aug 1 2026; the August full-open-source promise is unfulfilled and pending verification. TechCrunch — X open-sources its recommendation algorithm, Jan 20 2026 ↗
X open-sourced only its recommendation algorithm in March 2026 — after the Jan target and far short of 'literally all of the @X codebase, nothing left out.'
